Overview

Med students have a big role to play in advancing patient care by identifying heavy drinking as a contributing factor to a patient’s presenting condition.

Details

Too often, we are not taking evidence-based steps to prevent or treat unhealthy drinking, as well as alcohol use disorder, in all patients. In this interactive session, you’ll learn why access to care for unhealthy alcohol use is an equity issue and how to surmount stigma and other common barriers to helping patients who drink too much. You’ll see how to fill training gaps with a free online course from NIH, and you’ll explore a ladder of engagement strategies for making a difference.
